Our OBJ Viewer opens .obj files in your browser so you can preview the 3D model on your device. OBJ models often come with a .mtl file and texture images, so select those files together when you have them.

The files stay local. PrintNexus does not upload or store them, and you do not need an account.

Need to view a different 3D file type? Try the Free GLTF Viewer, the Free GLB File Viewer, or the Free Online STL Viewer.

How to view an OBJ file online

  1. Select the .obj file.
  2. Select the .mtl file and any texture images that came with it.
  3. Wait while the browser opens the model.
  4. Drag to rotate and scroll to zoom.

What is an OBJ file?

OBJ is a 3D mesh format used by many modeling apps, scan tools, and model libraries. The .obj file usually stores the shape of the model as vertices and faces.

OBJ often relies on nearby files for surface appearance. A .mtl file can describe materials, and image files can be used as textures.

When to use this viewer

Use this viewer when you receive an OBJ model folder and want a quick browser preview before opening a larger 3D app. It is also useful when you want to check that the main OBJ file and its related files are together.

For final editing, slicing, material setup, or export work, open the same file in the app that will use it.

Viewer limitations

OBJ files can lose their surface look when the .mtl file or texture images are missing. Texture paths can also break when a model is moved out of its original folder.

OBJ files may not include clear unit information, so size can vary between apps. Check scale in your final modeling, slicer, or game tool before using the file.
